Under the Lights

College football officially started yesterday & tonight is MSU's first game against Western Michigan. I l-o-v-e football and could not be more excited for this officially indicator of fall! But that doesn't mean I'm not freaked out about what to wear. I've put together 4 possible game day outfits for all sorts of conditions.

This is close to what I'll be wearing tonight. Though, I'll be switching out the pants for shorts (today's forecast calls for 90 degrees and rain - aka super humid!). You don't need super complicated outfits for game day. A t-shirt with cute accessories works!

I know, I know, I don't go to school in the south. But that doesn't mean you can't wear a dress to a football game! If you go to a casual campus - keep the dress casual and you'll be fine. A dress is also a cooler option for these first few games that are blisteringly hot!

What happens when it rains on game day? You power through, of course! Wellies & a parka will be your best friend. Make sure you keep your makeup waterproof too - no one wants running mascara.

Football season means the start of fall, which also means the start of fall weather. It's inevitable that you'll have a chilly fall day at some point during the season (we usually get snow before the season's over). Pair a cozy sweater in your team's colors with a fun necklace. Note: I'm not crazy, promise. I put two necklaces in this set because I was thinking bubble necklace at first and then stumbled upon this other one. Please don't wear two necklaces!

One last note - don't feel the need to wear something that's specifically school spirit! You might have noticed that only one of these outfits actually has a MSU shirt in it. It's okay to support your team in just the right colors!

What is your favorite outfit for game day?

Pretty Pins

When Pinterest first caught on, I wasn't a huge fan. I had used Evernote for ages, doing essentially the same concept for myself. Feeling a little bit selfish, I thought, why should I share all these great ideas I find on the internet? Well, I've changed. I'm totally hooked now!  I thought I would share some of my favorite recent pins! (You can follow all of my pins here!)

Pin
I'm always on the lookout for good travel outfits. I love how simple & chic this look is! It would have been the perfect outfit for all the rain the other day.

Pin
My interior design board has the most pins, which doesn't surprise me at all. I love the look of these floating shelves from IKEA. It would be a great way to create an easily editable gallery wall too!

Pin
From a recent post from The College Prepster, this is a great thing to remember. When you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath & break it down. What small things can you do to chip away and make it not so intimidating?

Pin
A DIY project I'm dying to try! I'm thinking a Detroit Tigers D...

Pin
I'm a sucker for anything leopard print. I also really love the small details in this photo. If I could have that skirt in my closet, I would be a happy happy girl.

Rainy Days

Today has been absolutely gloomy! I don't know how else to describe it. Rain, rain, rain. All day long! Not that I really mind, because it's a great excuse to curl up with a blanket and a good book!

Target cardigan, IKEA blanket, World Market mug, The Help

Cozy leggings and a cardigan is my go-to rainy day outfit.

For those of you not lucky enough to be able to stay home all day, don't forget your umbrella!

Word to the wise: always check the weather before you leave your house! You don't want to be that girl walking through the rain in a white t-shirt! (True life: I witnessed that this morning.)

Class Notes: 3 Ways

I take notes 3 different ways. It depends on the class, and what my schedule looks like for the day. Generally speaking, I hate carrying my computer around. I think it's too darn heavy! But occasionally, it's the best tool for the job.

Handwritten | This is my favorite method, by far. I prefer to handwrite all of my notes, but sometimes a professor talks too fast! I have one notebook per class to keep everything straight. Have a class that uses a lot of outline style notes? Try a notebook of graph paper! It will help keep everything lined up.

Computer | Sometimes you'll end up with a professor that can talk a million miles a second. It's hard to keep up, even if you type pretty fast! For these classes, I don't even try to handwrite notes, it's a lost cause in my head.

Keyboard | If you have to type notes, but don't want to carry around a computer this is my favorite solution! I bought a bluetooth keyboard from amazon & hooked it up to my phone. I use the Google Docs app & can type like I have a computer without the extra weight!

Tips:
If you handwrite your notes, type them up once a week. It will help you review what was talked about in class & prepare for your exams!

Use Google Drive for all of your notes. You can create a folder for each class & you can access your notes from anywhere. No tracking down missing files! They'll also be backed up to the cloud, so if your computer crashes you'll be good. You can also access all of your files on your iPhone with their app.

Take notes in different colors. I like to write definitions in a different color so they are easier to pick out when I'm making flash cards. Use highlighters to study!

If your professor provides notes or outlines before class, print them out & look at them! You'll be more prepared & it will be easier to take notes.

thank you

{source}

Friday night, my roommate & I went to the Ingham County Fair. I had never been to a county fair, so it was quite the experience! We had a blast and ate lots of fair food (corn dogs, lemonade, pretzels & fries were all involved).

While we were ordering our corn dogs, I said thank you, instinctively. The gentleman running the stand told me "you're the first person all day to say thank you". Keep in mind, it was 7pm at this point and the fair had been going on all day. I was shocked. How could no one have said thank you all day?

Don't forget to say thank you - to everyone that helps you along in life. Even for the little things! No one is too unimportant to not deserve thanks.

August

To me, August is the official start to Back to School season. Summer is starting to wind down, and fall is starting to seep in. As I'm working on all my August plans, my 21st list keeps popping into my head. Specifically #38: take a risk.

Courage is my favorite word of the english language. (Yep, it deserves that high of an honor in my head!) It's a word that means a lot to me & carries a lot of love. In honor of courage & number 38, I decided some new backgrounds were in order.

This is a photo of the ferris wheel on Navy Pier in Chicago from my instagram. (I was totally terrified when we reached the top!)
